This multi-phase renovation and expansion project for MSD Decatur School of Excellence was strategically executed to minimize disruption during the academic year. Phase 1, completed between October 14, 2019, and March 9, 2020, focused on comprehensive kitchen renovations and the installation of state-of-the-art food service equipment. Phase 2, carried out from May 25, 2020, through July 30, 2020, involved extensive cafeteria renovations and site upgrades completed over the summer break to ensure timely delivery.
The scope of work included the renovation and expansion of existing classrooms and the cafeteria, featuring updated interior finishes designed to enhance the learning environment. A significant component of the project was the expansion of the existing pre-engineered metal building (PEMB), which included a structural steel addition to accommodate new shop space and high school learning rooms.
Construction took place in occupied spaces, requiring careful coordination and safety protocols. The project also introduced modern collaborative learning areas and innovation spaces to support 21st-century educational practices. Additional work involved selective demolition, underground excavation, and comprehensive MEP system upgrades (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) throughout the facility.
